Can a sofa offer new types of seating? Does it have to be solely for relaxation, or can it also have a playful function? Why can’t a seat be a work of art when it is not in use?
The journalist and curator specialised in design, Tachy Mora, explored the evolution of the traditional concept of the house with the exhibition Scenarios of a Near Future, a prospective on what domestic environments could be like in ten years’ time. It was presented for the first time as part of World Design Capital 2022.
Coinciding with Habitat Valencia, this nomadic exhibition introduced once again some of the most interesting speculative projects. The most experimental designs were on display for professional attendees, prescribers and students.
Tachy explored five concepts, which are not new, but they explore and formulate new proposals, solutions to different needs and scenarios: flexibility, multifunctionality, modularity, nomadism and sustainability.
Sancal participated with the Link & Inflate Link proposals as a response to nomadism and the need to relocate furniture according to the moment or even change its location. Link Inflate is a speculative design specially commissioned for the show.
Link is also a design that redefines the archetypal conception of the sofa. A piece with a powerful graphic expression. Its position and orientation can be very varied, generating different heights and voids that favour casual seating in multiple ways.
