Oui Design X WantedDesign NYC
It is obvious that Sancal loves colour. Primary and secondary, vibrant or pastel, natural or artificial, satin or matte, opaque or translucent, all colour motivates us, even brown!
When Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat, the WantedDesign co-founders and curators of its exhibitions, proposed us to participate in the COULEUR show with Ionna Vautrin pieces, we could only say OUI!
Pion is a worthy model for such a colourful exhibition. The use of colour in this model, inspired by the chess figures, is simple and ingenious at the same time. Ionna played with the contrast between the shine of lacquers and the matt wax finish for the natural áreas. The seat of the stool is in natural leather, chosen to match the colour of the base.
The Pion Petra are in the opposite plane of color, with more sober and neutral tones. The base and pillar is lacquered MDF for both the side and dining tables. Quartzite tabletops are combined with quartz coloured bases and the emperador gold marble has been contrasted against a tobacco lacquer.
The exhibition which seeks to illustrate the crucial role of color in design, is part of the OUI DESIGN program initiated together with the French Embassy on the occasion of the NYCxDESIGN. It has also featured pieces by the french designers Julie Richoz and Pernelle Poyet
“Throughout the creative process, color functions as a versatile and distinctive language for design, a sensible and emotional tool. Every subtle nuance of colors serves to define a shape, highlight a contour, transform a mood or transmit a message” explain the planners .
And from Sancal we agree with them because for us “colour is the language we use to express a world of emotions”.
