Clara-Iris illustrates it with surreal everyday scenes.
We are at that time in which we start planning the new year, with new resolutions… and what better way to welcome the new year than with Sancal’s long-awaited calendar?
We have entrusted Clara-Iris with this new edition. Besides being a useful object, this calendar also serves as decoration for your desktop.
Estudio Sancal curates Clara-Iris’ illustrations: graphic, humorous and surreal scenes in which Sancal pieces of furniture unexpectedly turn into accessories with unusual applications.
The careless, thoughtless curiosity of its protagonists introduces us to a world as imaginative as the artist herself. Her characters are modern-life caricatures who play ping-pong from La Isla bench, feed their egos sitting on a Diwan or use sophisticated inventions to read while reclining on a Tortuga armchair.
This graphic project, inspired by the poetry of nonsense, turns the everyday into the absurd. But isn’t the everyday often absurd?
Clara-Iris’s graphic narrative is striking and reflects on how we behave. If there is one thing that characterises human beings, it is that, on many occasions, we complicate the simplest things.
Her work is characterised by the use of colour as a uniform mass to define simple yet expressive figures. The colour palette is vitaminised: yellow and orange reinforce a joyful message. You will also remember her for being one of the artists who took part in “Mujeres x Mujeres” art collection for Sancal with artworks “Amigas” and “Libres”.
Get your calendar from our webshop! And even if the year is over, the illustrations don’t expire. So why not framing your favourite months once you’ve crossed out all the days on their pages?
